Sculpture, as an object, asserts its presence (as a thing rather than an image; it IS rather than refers or depicts) and might provoke in the viewer a sense of shared presence, particularly when its form suggests a kind of bodily presence and is of a scale similar to our own body, occupying and displacing a similar amount of space.
